Putting a finger on the pulse of menswear can be a little overwhelming at times. Here, we hone in on five sartorial upgrades that have been particularly noticeable lately.
Blues and greys–move over! Men are falling in love with green again. Rich green tweeds abound, fabric mills are amping up production of green cloth, and many men’s stores are having trouble keeping green sport coats in stock.
With higher lapel notches being a huge craze for years now (a higher notch makes a man look taller), men are channeling the days of old and going for the lower lapel notch to bring a fresh look to their suiting collection.
With strict attention to using collar stays to keep shirt collar tips straight and pointy, practically no one saw the collar tip turn-up trend coming (shirts: Napolisumisura)… not recommended for those faint of heart.
Not unlike the window pane pattern of recent years, the graph check, also called the grid check (a pattern reminiscent of the graph paper we once used in math class) is making a strong return to the sartorial scene…and, according to Vitale Barberis Canonico Style Division Manager, Maurizio Albertini, grid check suits (particularly in flannel) could be the next big thing to arrive on the 2015-16 sartorial scene !
Ditto suits (suits with vest fabric that exactly matches suit fabric) used to be the choice of the working man, since the odd vest was considered a more formal choice because choosing a different waistcoat material required more work for the tailor and more contemplation from the client. Today, the odd vest (waistcoat) is back with a vengeance.
